Crayfish Encounter
I’m taking a loop around Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park this morning and suddenly I see this huge scorpion-like thing on the path in front of me. Turns out, it wasn’t a scorpion.
Not something you expect to see on a morning jog.
Looks like we’ve got crayfish in the lakes of Golden Gate Park. I ran into a coyote in the park last year, but I never expected to see a crawdad. Little guy was crawling away from the water, and when he had a crowd of people around him he raised his pincers in the air to keep us at bay.

This same exact thing happened to me today while I was walking my dog- same spot!! I came home and tried to explain what I saw to my roommate what that little creature looked like and I sounded like a crazy person. So I decided to google it…and came up on your posting. I described it as a “weird red/ lobster/ crawfish/ scorpion” thing that was crawling away from the water. It got freaked out by my dog so it rocked back on its tail and also raised its pincers in the air. so Wow…thank you for letting me know I am not crazy.
Nope, you’re not crazy!
